Solving Climate Change: A Climate Justice Perspective with Karen Warner Nelson

We should be thinking about the clear connections between climate change and peace and justice issues.  Communities that are already living in impoverished, polluted and fragile circumstances will be the most overwhelmed by the environmental, health and economic challenges posed by climate change — from drought to sea level rise, these impacts harm most, those who are already at risk.

Climate justice using long-standing human rights advocacy tools, can be a valuable source of inspiration to fight climate change. With a peace and justice perspective we can redirect attention to people who are otherwise likely to be ignored or unheard.

We’ll explore key climate change risks and impacts from a climate justice point of view.  And we’ll consider how to address climate change, what you can do personally and how to work for climate justice.

Karen is a certified Climate Reality Leader with Al Gore's Climate Reality Project.

Karen has worked as an environmental planner and Executive Director of an environmental non-profit.  She is currently a communication executive with clients ranging from large Fortune 500 firms to NGOs and educational institutions.  The Silicon Valley Business Journal recognized her, as one of Silicon Valley’s Top 50 Women Owned Businesses, three years during 2002 to 2007. 

 She also actively works on climate change issues with the League of Woman Voters San Jose/Santa Clara, is a member of the League of Women Voters California Climate Change Task Force and is a member of California Community Energy.
