History of Votes for Women in America Aug 16 at 7 PM
Rowan Fairgrove speaking on the History of Votes for Women in America.
The call for Women’s Suffrage grew out of a greater notion of rights for women arising from Enlightenment philosophy and in response to the patriarchal oppression that women around the world suffered.
Issues commonly associated with women's rights include the right to bodily integrity and autonomy, to be free from sexual violence, to have equal rights in family law, to work, to hold public office, to enter into legal contracts, to have fair wages or equal pay, to have reproductive rights, to own property, and access to education and, of course, the right to vote.
Rowan will talk about the arc of women’s rights in the United States, thus concentrating on the timeline of voting rights and on the women and organizations that championed the right to vote.
